I spent 13 years in construction, climbing from labourer to project manager. I've managed multi-million £ projects, led diverse teams, and faced every challenge this industry can throw at you.
But I also battled addiction, burnout, and mental health challenges. I watched colleagues struggle with the same issues, often in silence. The turning point came when I had worked on 3 extremely challenging projects back to back. I thought that I had just had a bit of bad luck.
My director took me out for lunch as he could see he was slowly but surely losing me. When expressed my concern and told him how worried i was about the project he responded “good, its healthy to be up and night thinking about all the things that worry you… it shows you care”
After that conversation i started to speak to colleagues, friends and other people in the industry who all felt the same but thought that the industry was to put it bluntly “to far fucked to fix”
That's when I knew something had to change.
Today, I combine my construction experience with my recovery journey to create practical mental health solutions that actually work on site. No theoretical approaches, no tick-box exercises. Just real support for real people in construction.
